Sara River Dot Com: Living in harmony with nature.

About Us - 2008

We at Sara River Dot Com decided some four years ago to put out previous knowledge and experience into a total action and develop a self sufficient or at least as much as possible, a self sufficient and self sustaining lifestyle, based on the principal of working in harmony with nature.

Graham's and Kim and Mauzi's Properties (which actually consists of two properties working in co-operation as neighbours) are managed completely without chemicals and with the view of incorporating natural and sustainable systems in everything we do.

The picture looks something like this:
All vegetables, fruits, berries and herbs are grown whichout chemicals, all livestock (at the time of writing include Dairy Goats, Pigs, a Donkey, Geese, Ducks, Chickens, Meat Rabbits, Ferrets, Dogs and Cats) are raised in as natural an environment as possible and chemical free, we operate off the grid power systems including solar and wind, have built in rammed earth and are currently experimenting with cob and bag construction building techniques. We utilise a multitude of old skills in our every day life and love what we do. Oh, by the way we are committed to doing all of this on a budget and so we tend to be pretty resourceful in the way we put things together.

We came to this picture from varied backgrounds of a an Electronics Engineer who loves to work with alternative power systems, machinery and fixing anything; a Chef who also had experience in surveying and a passion for working with old tools amongst loads of other practical old skills; and an Equestrian coach who has worked a lifetime with various animals and who has a passion for anything that grows and using medicinal herbs.

We are constantly researching, learning and trialling new concepts and as we do we add our experiences to the site. Hope you find something that is of interest and help to you.
