Books, articles, reference material

Postby Sandi » Tue Jan 08, 2008 12:50 pm

Hi! :D

I was wondering if a forum could be started concerning books, articles, movies etc that we may like to share or discuss (Reading of course being my way of getting away from the actual physical doing...........!!!!!)

I realise some books may be more appropriate to be discussed in more specific forums but others of a more general nature could perhaps be discussed here.

Maybe a 'WHAT ARE YOU READING NOW?' format?

Can you tell I'm busting to share with you what I'm reading? Well..........., I've just read 'The Olive Grove' by Patrice Newell - her 1st book although I started with her most recent which is 'Ten Thousand Acres' (which I read last year). They were both easy reading, interesting and mostly about her biodynamic cattle/olive farm near Scone, nature, rural life....

I also have 'the River' to read also written by her; but have been sidetracked by Pat Coleby's 'Natural Farming- A Practical Guide' which arrived in the post yesterday and which I am nearly 3/4 way through! (doesn't sound like me at all - being sidetracked that is! Just ask DH!)

This I am finding fascinating and it ties so many other things together for me. She sounds like a gem of a woman with so much knowledge. We 'know' and feel the links beween the soil and food and health- (both animals and human) It much be so frustrating for her to have the answers and still see so much destruction of the earth and our health. Has anyone else read this or any of her Animal Care books?

I feel like I am on a knowledge journey and that I am led to certain books. I sometimes have to hunt them down after seeing them in recommended reading lists, bibliographies or book reviews in magazines etc. I would love to know what others of like mind are reading! :) - there is so much knowledge and the more I learn the more I want to learn and the more I feel the interconectedness of it all!

I feel almost like I am doing research and am waiting until I can implement the knowledge!

forum for "What are you reading"

Postby mauzi » Tue Jan 08, 2008 7:10 pm

That is a great idea Sandi. I will get to it asap. We could have two - one "What are you reading" and one "What good movies have you seen" or something like that.

Like you I love to read/research and yes I have read Pat Coleby's books. I have used some of her animal remedies over the years and they have been very effective. I go more for herbs as you can grow them and prepare them yourself but I do like her work and attitude enormously.

We are all readers in our family - all of us, including the boys, always have our heads in one book or another. I am pleased that the boys love to read as well although they like to read more fiction but both are history addicts - like their dad - so many a discussion happens at our place about books and history. I will leave my other comments about favourite books for the new forum.

Had a laugh about the getting sidetracked bit - your DH and mine could have great chats I think

Catch up on the new forum.
