Solar Panel Regulator Project

Postby graham » Mon Aug 13, 2007 3:24 am

I must be really inspired at the moment because I am starting all these projects that I have been talking about for years

I plan to source the parts and build some simple regulators for use with solar panels. I will support Kim and Mauzi to put up their solar panels as a test site for the regulator.

I have chosen to build a switch type regulator which is very inexpensive and will be easily repaired.

Stay tuned.....

solar panel project

Postby graham » Tue Aug 28, 2007 5:11 pm

I have started the solar panel project, I have finalised the design of the regulator. It was a tough call, because my main goal was to keep it simple. Well I think I have achieved that, have a look here on the main site.

calling all tech-heads

Postby graham » Wed Aug 29, 2007 7:15 am

Hello everyone, especially you tech heads out there. I was awake last night thinking about my Solar Panel regulator for hours. I am concerned that the current drawn from the battery at night time is a bit high at about 3 or 4 mA. On a large system this is probably OK, but a smaller battery it could waste to much of that precious energy during this time.
My main aim was to keep it as simple as possible but as a result sacrificed a bit of extra current draw from the battery.

Any body any ideas on this would be highly appreciated....

Here is the schematic.....
